Reviews for French Tutors

Mrs Morrison - Alan provided French tuition to my son weekly for a year before his A level. He was aspiring to study languages at university and aiming high but having taken his GCSE a year early and in lockdown he lacked confidence and was considerably behind where he needed to be. Alan worked very hard with him and helped to grow his confidence and ability so that he was able to score 89% at A level, just 0.25% off an A*. We were all delighted with this result and my son secured his place to read languages at Bristol. Alan was a great source of advice on ways to develop language skills outside the curriculum and also gave my son valuable insight on how he could use his languages in future careers. He was supportive and communicative at all times and was clearly invested in my son's success. I would recommend him wholeheartedly.

Ms Cresswell - Alan is an outstanding German tutor. His deep passion for the language and knowledge of German culture is evident, adding nuance to the subject whilst teaching. His enthusiasm for German is infectious, making every lesson I had engaging and inspiring. He brings complex grammar to life and tailored his approach to help me navigate the more challenging concepts. He not only taught the German required for the syllabus but went above and beyond in supporting me, even exploring different German opportunities as a career. Alan's compassion sets him apart. He is always patient and willing to go the extra mile to help me. No question was too small, and he was genuinely invested in my success, even contacting me after exams and results to ask how they went. His flexibility was equally impressive, accommodating schedules and adjusting lessons to focus on areas where help was most needed. Alan's ability to make learning both fun and accessible has helped me make tremendous progress in German, and I couldn't recommend him more highly. Student -17 years old

Mrs D Phillips - I just wanted to say once again how grateful we are for your support of Emma and all the kindness that you have shown her. Emma has always looked forward to her lessons with you and found them both fun and engaging. You have made a difference with her approach and confidence to her work and with her overall self-belief. You are a special tutor, and we have been so lucky to have found you. The teenage years are difficult, full of challenges and there is a lot of work involved in A levels. Emma has really valued your input during this part of her life and she is even more focused on her future and determined to find an interesting and fulfilling pathway ahead. Thank you, Frances. Wishing you good health and happiness for 2023. Kind regards Denise.

Mrs Barton - Francis is a highly productive tutor and got my 12 year-old boy on the right track after tremendous efforts. My son has been learning pretty much within a very short period of time. We hope to come back to him as soon as possible after a break.

Mrs Conley - Very supportive and a skilled German teacher. Highly recommend.

Mrs Gupta - My son really liked the way Carol went through the course content with him. She prepared him really well for his GCSE and he managed to get a 9!

Miss Bowen - Colin has been such a wonderful tutor over the past several months. He has really helped our son improve upon his Economics skills for his forthcoming A-Level examinations. Colin has been accommodating and flexible with timings. He genuinely wants our son to do well in Economics. We would not hesitate to recommend Colin 100% and thank him for all of his invaluable input and knowledge in the hours spent tutoring our son.

Mrs Hiney - I began lessons with Sabine to build my confidence with speaking French and help with preparation for my A Level French, and I couldn't be happier with the experience! Sabine was my French tutor for just over 9 months and from the very first lesson, she not only helped me gain confidence in speaking French, but also tailored every lesson to focus on exactly what I needed to improve. Her adaptability, dedication, and the wealth of resources she provided made each lesson invaluable and she consistently went above and beyond to ensure I understood and progressed. I looked forward to her lessons every week which was especially important with all the stress of year 13 and this was thanks to her kind and humorous nature! One of the things I valued most was her commitment to going beyond vocabulary and grammar. She wove in French culture, idiomatic expressions, and exam-focused strategies that enriched my language learning experience further. I am deeply grateful for everything she has done to help me prepare for my A Level with confidence as well as being a genuinely lovely person! I would highly recommend Sabine to anyone looking for enjoyable French lessons with a patient, enthusiastic teacher.

Eve Owen - Sabine tutored me in the lead up my French A Level exam. She listened to what I felt needed to be improved and our lessons were tailored to my areas for improvement, such as grammar, which I feel improved greatly in accuracy amd confidence due to her. We were able to to cover all aspects of the A Level course, with Sabine being able to provide lots of relevant and up-to-date knowledge that helps set apart students. Overall, I was able to achieve my dream A Level grade thanks to her help.

Mrs Milbourn - Excellent teacher who supported our daughter through her English Literature A Level through flexible distance learning. Would rexommend.

Mrs Pascoe - My daughter found the lesson she had with her very useful, many thanks

Dr Johnson - I have been taking lessons with Carmela for almost a year and feel that I have learned a great deal. Carmela paces the lessons very well, and there is an excellent balance of language learning, including reading and listening comprehension, grammar, writing and speaking. As a native speaker, Carmela is able to discuss the nuances of language use and provides really interesting insights into Italian culture. She constantly challenges me but is also encouraging, especially when I become frustrated with myself! Carmela is happy to focus on particular aspects or topics when appropriate or requested. So, for example, before going to Sardinia with my family last year, we practised useful vocabulary and phrases when ordering in a restaurant. The flexibility and focus of one-to-one lessons mean that progress is much faster and motivation remains high. Carmela is a true linguist and lover of languages and that shines through. I can highly recommend Carmela's teaching.

Mrs Atalla Lochead - I started Italian lessons with Carmela as an adult learner. I need to do an aptitude test for nationality eventually so it was important that I find the right teacher. Carmela has been great- her teaching method is clear and concise. She is always happy to stop and answer the many questions I have even when I go off-piste into something that's not part of the lesson. I particularly appreciate the recap notes of the lesson that she immediately send over after the lesson is done. She also puts homework on google classroom which helps in keeping everything organised. She is also very patient which is very important in a tutor. Having a professional and conscientious tutor makes learning so much easier. I plan on continuing with Carmela for the foreseeable.

Mrs Armstrong - Hi Phyllis, Just to let you know that Amy got an A * in French with full marks for speaking. So she got her Cambridge place. Thanks so much again for all your help. It gave her so much more confidence having had very few opportunities to speak French.

Mrs Endler - Thanks so much for your help with German It was her highest mark at A level She's really enjoyed her sessions and there's no doubt it had a huge impact.

Lucy Thorpe - This was a super Spanish lesson! An engaging set of activities that moved along at a good pace whilst scaffolding the less able learners and challenging the most able.

Mrs Davies - Sarah is an excellent teacher. She is very personable and responds admirably to the level of ability she has to cope with. She knows how to challenge me and I feel I have really made progress in the last few weeks. Thank you

Mrs Fu - Sarah is a very knowledgeable teacher, who can put a shy student at ease very quickly. My daughter started her weekly course with Sarah from Year 10 for GCSE French. We really appreciate the in-person tuition on writing, oral and listening French. My daughter has gained a lot of confidence and ability due to Sarah's great teaching. Her predicated grade for GCSE is 9 thanks to Sarah.

Kate Bland - Catherine has been tutoring our son, who is aged 17. She has been professional throughout, encouraging independent thinking, learning and self-motivation. She has excellent communication skills and is very reliable and approachable.

Location
Online Tuition: Involves a French tutor on the platform of your choice to provide one-on-one instruction. This offers convenience as you don't need to travel. This can take place anywhere with an internet connection. Small Group Tuition: Typically with between 2 to 4 children, and often occurs in a physical location such as your home, though it can also be online.

Individual Attention
Online Tuition: Allows for one-to-one attention, but it may be slightly less personal than home tuition due to potential distractions. Small Group Tuition: Offers less individual attention as the French tutor must divide their time and attention among multiple students.

Cost
Online Tuition: Often more affordable than home tuition as your French tutor does not need to travel but may still cost more than small group tuition. Small Group Tuition: Generally, this is the most cost-effective option, as the costs are shared among several families.

Flexibility
Online Tuition: Provides flexibility in terms of location and may offer a wider selection of French tutors. Small Group Tuition: Lessons will be more difficult to schedule as lesson times will have to fit in with other families.

Interaction
Online Tuition: Provides interaction through video conferencing tools and chat, which can be engaging but may not suit everyone's learning style. Small Group Tuition: Allows for peer interaction, which can benefit collaborative learning and discussions.

The choice between online, or small group French tuition depends on your preferences, budget, and the student's specific educational needs. Each option has advantages and disadvantages, so it's essential to consider these factors when deciding.
